BEAUMONT, Texas - Legendary football coach Bobby Bowden will be the guest speaker for Lamar's Annual Football Banquet Sunday, Aug. 23. The 2015 Lamar Football Banquet will begin at 6 p.m., and will take place at Ford Park Arena. Prior to the banquet there will be a private reception with Bowden for Gold and Red Sponsors.
Still one the most recognizable names in college football, Bowden has more than 400 wins in his career and is most known for building Florida State into the powerhouse that it is today. Bowden spent 35 seasons at FSU where he won more than 300 games, including two National Championships (1993 and 2000). A four-time National Coach of the Year selection, Bowden has also been inducted into the National Football Foundation, College Football, Florida Sports and Alabama Sports Halls of Fame.
The cost of the dinner will be $100 per plate, but tables can also be purchased at different price ranges. The prices for tables range from $1,000 up to $5,000.
There will once again be a live and silent auction taking place during the banquet.
Fans will have a chance to get an early look at the 2015 Cardinals Saturday beginning at 7 p.m. when the team steps on the field at Provost Umphrey Stadium to host its second scrimmage of preseason camp. The scrimmage is free and open to the public.
The Cardinals will also be hosting a Fan Fest in conjunction with Saturday's football scrimmage. The Fan Fest begin at 5:30 p.m. and provides a free night of fun and football at Provost Umphrey Stadium. There will be games for the kids, and free Kona Ice Treats available, along with picture opportunities with the coaches, players, and members of the LU spirit squads. Fans will also be entertained by the LU marching band. Free LU mini footballs will be handed out (while supplies last).
There will be a VIP reception for Cardinal Club members beginning at 6 p.m. will last until 15 minutes prior to kickoff. Players will be available from 6-6:30 p.m. to autograph free schedule posters.
