Kano
Pillars yesterday became the first team to qualify for the next round
of the on-going DSTV Basketball League Final Eight. They won their
second game against Kada Stars 80 to 62 to make the last four of the
competition holding at the National Stadium, Lagos.
The Kano-based side, which on Monday defeated Union Bank 67-51 in
their opening game, showed why they are the team to beat in the
championship by dominating all the quarters of the match.
In the first quarter of the game, Kada Stars tried to contain their
opponents, but Kano Pillars’ accurate shots and deft moves proved too
much for the Kaduna boys to handle.
Excited coach of Kano Pillars, Sani Ahmed, stated after the game that
team play and hard work spurred the boys to victory. In the second game
of the day, Customs fell 65-56 to Lagos Islanders.
Customs dominated the game in the first quarter, which they won 30-
22, but they could not maintain their lead as the Islanders’ came on
strong with Camerounian star, Williams Nduombe and Olatunji Awojobi
leading the onslaught.
Speaking to The Guardian after the game, Islanders’ Captain, Seun
Akinwale, said hardwork and determination to win gave the team victory.
Today’s games have not separated the team in Group A, but the
semifinalists will emerge after tomorrow’s matches.
