MANCHESTER UNITED are reportedly prepared to
offer Jonny Evans plus a hefty amount of cash to beat Chelsea to Everton
star John Stones.
Now, boss Louis van Gaal and co have switched their attentions to in-demand Stones and hope a player-plus-cash deal can beat off their rivals.
Chelsea had a £26m bid rejected by the Toffees recently while Manchester City have also entered the race for the 21-year-old.
Meanwhile, former Blues favourite Tony Cascarino sees similarities in Stones' transfer saga with that of United's capture of former Toffee Wayne Rooney.“He is the most attractive defender around, he has excelled for Everton”Tony Cascarino
Speaking to talkSPORT, Cascarino said: "It’s just like when Man United pursued Wayne Rooney from Everton years ago.
"He was the best striker available, United hunted him down, and they eventually got him. It’s the same case with John Stones.
"He is the most attractive defender around, he has excelled for Everton.
"This pursuit will continue and it is going to be very difficult [for the club to keep hold of him]."
