Captain of Sharks of Port Harcourt, Odinga Odinga, has revealed that early marriage largely contributed to his long-playing career.
The defence ace, who has been playing football for close to two decades, advised young and upcoming footballers to imbibe discipline and dedication to duty as virtues if they look to succeed in the round-leather game.
“The secret of my long playing career is discipline and the fact that I’m dedicated to the game of football. Another thing that helped me most to remain focused is that I married early. It has helped me to remain strong” Odinga revealed in a recent chat.
Odinga who doubles as he President of the Club Captains’ Forum is not thinking of quitting the game in the nearest future.
“I still intend to play on. I believe that whenever my body can no longer carry on with the game, it will show. I’m not thinking of quitting the game in the nearest future because if you watch me play, you’d know that I’m still strong.
My advice to the young players is that they should emulate the good old players like us and keep working hard and look up to God. They should be dedicated to their job and be focused to be able to succeed.
The referees did a wonderful job in the first stanza of the season. If they continue that way, I believe we (Sharks) can finish among the top five teams at the end of the season.
