He’s
the man who purportedly once clocked a faster time over 30 metres than
athletics legend Usain Bolt, but now it is the goals of Borussia
Dortmund speedster Pierre-EmerickAubameyang that are doing all the
talking.
The Gabon international netted the
seventh brace of his Bundesliga career in BVB’s topsy-turvy 4-2 win away
to Hannover 96 on Matchday 4 and is currently second only to FC Bayern
München’s Thomas Müller at the top of the leading scorers charts.
“Without getting ahead of myself, I’d
really like to score at least 20 goals in the Bundesliga this season,”
Aubameyang said at the start of the 2015/16 campaign, having followed up
his debut season 13-goal haul with a career-best 16 Bundesliga strikes
last term. “At least.”
Already with five goals in four league
games, however, the 26-year-old is on course to meet his lofty target.
More importantly, it is abundantly clear that he is deriving immense
pleasure from playing football under the tactically astute Thomas
Tuchel. Saturday’s audacious Antonin Panenka-inspired penalty – his
second spot-kick of the afternoon at the HDI-Arena – attests to that.
“I’m
really happy at the club, in the team and in this city,” Aubemeyang
enthused after it was confirmed the AC Milan youth product had put pen
to paper on a two-year contract extension on 31 July 2015. “BVB is like a
second home to me. My heart’s here and I never wanted to leave.”
Happiness yields results and that is most certainly the case for BVB’s
carefree No.17 who, as well as scoring in six successive Bundesliga
matches dating back to last season, has bagged himself more goals in all
competitions in 2015 (23) than any other player in Germany’s top
flight.
