‘D’Tigers deserve honour’

Sports philanthropist, Toyin Sodipo, has praised the national basketball team, D’Tigers for winning the 2015 Afrobasket competition, which ended in Tunisia on Sunday.
Sodipo expressed his delight that the team won the coveted trophy for the first time in the history of the competition, after reaching the final on three previous occasions.
He thus appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to host the team appreciation of their performance.
He said, “They have displayed great patriotism and sportsmanship winning the elusive trophy. They deserve to be hosted and rewarded by the Federal Government. They should be honoured same way the Super Eagles were rewarded after winning the Africa Cup of Nations in 2013.
“The team returned with not just the biggest prize in African basketball, but they also qualified for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.”
Shodipo appealed to the National Sports Commission to organise a training tour for the team ahead of the 2016 Olympic Games to keep them in top slope.

“I believe a training tour of the United States before the Olympic Games will improve the chances of the team in Rio de Janeiro. They will play against the best teams in Brazil and it is better they prepare very well. I believe they can win a bronze medal in Rio, if they prepare well,” he added.
