Eli Manning, Giants closing in on a 4-year, $84 million contract

Manning Eli got himself paid! New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning is closing in on a four year contract extension worth $84 million, according to Ian Rapoport. Manning was heading into the final year of the six year contract extension he signed back in 2009. He has said he was comfortable playing out the year, but it is clear the Giants wanted to get something done. I don't think Eli would have made it a distraction, but you know New York media would have.

In some ways the Giants will be viewed as paying Eli for past performance. However, he could be heading into a season with big possibilities. The Giants offense has the potential to be one of its best in recent years, making for a big challenge for the San Francisco 49ers in Week 5.


They have Odell Beckham Jr. coming off a ridiculous 2014 season, and he is joined by a host of options. Victor Cruz is not expected to play in their season opener, but he could be back in time for the 49ers game. They also have Rueben Randle, who is quietly a solid receiver. Add in tight end Larry Donnell and running backs Rashad Jennings and Andre Williams, and this offense is going to cause some problems for folks this season.
