Two players from San Antonio John Jay appeared to target an official and intentionally hit him late in the game against Marble Falls. The players have been suspended from the team and school pending a review by the Northside Independent School District, officials said. It is unclear why the players went after the official, although a number of John Jay players were ejected from the game.

In a statement Monday, Marble Falls police said: “During the game two players from John Jay High School targeted one of the game officials and blindsided him, knocking him to the ground. The incident was recorded on video from several different angles and the Marble Hills Police Department is conducting an investigation. No arrests have been made at this time. An update will be released within the week.”
On Sunday, NISD spokesman Pascual Gonzales said:

This incident is extremely disturbing, not the sportsman like behavior we teach students at Northside ISD. We are cooperating with the UIL investigation. We will handle this incident on Tuesday morning and schedule a due process hearing which will include formal interviews with coaching staffing , the students themselves and other athletes, anyone who has knowledge of whatever was seen.
The bottom line is, Northside will not tolerate this type of behavior. It does appear the athletes intentionally tackled the referee, but we have not confirmed it.
The player wearing the No. 12 jersey was ejected by the official after the play, but No. 81 remained in the game and another Jay player was tossed instead, NISD athletic director Steve Laing said.
