Champions
of the Zenith Bank Women’s Basketball League Dolphins have said they
would give their best to remain FIBA Africa Zone 3 champions when they
participate in the forthcoming 2015 Africa Champions Cup Zone3
qualifiers.
Dolphins resumed training and final
preparations for the qualifiers in Lagos on Monday, and the team’s
coach, Ochuko Okworogun, told our correspondent on the telephone that
they were expecting a tough challenge as they move to retain their title
as FIBA Zone 3 champions.
She said, “We’ve resumed training after going on break for Sallah.
We had started training before we went on break. Now that we have
resumed, we will continue until the qualifier start. We won’t have any
other break.
“We’ve
started serious preparations. Our aim is to remain Africa Zone 3
champions. We started training early because we know that it will take a
lot of hard work to retain our title in Zone 3 champions.”
Okworogun added that the club recruited few players from other clubs to beef up their squad ahead of the qualifiers.
Dolphins performed a historic feat at the end of the season, beating archrivals First Bank to emerge Nigerian champions.
According to Okworogun, they now have their eyes set on becoming the team to beat on the continent.
