On Thursday, the Red Sox announced manager John Farrell's cancer is in remission. He underwent tests Thursday at Massachusetts General Hospital and will speak to reporters Friday.
"I am extremely thankful for the outpouring of support I have received from the Red Sox, my family, friends, and fans throughout this process," said Farrell in a statement. "I am especially thankful for the talented doctors who cared for me in Detroit and here at MGH. I look forward to getting back to work and bringing another championship back to Boston."
"We are thrilled to hear the great news about John today," said president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski. "Foremost, we are extremely happy for him and his family, knowing what he was gone through over the last two months. We all admire him for his strength and courage, and look forward to having him back as our manager."
Farrell, 53, was diagnosed with Stage 1 Lymphoma in the middle of August and left the team to undergo treatment. He completed chemotherapy treatment earlier this month and was discharged from the hospital.
The Red Sox plan to have Farrell in the dugout as their manager for the 2016 season. Bench coach Torey Lovullo replaced Farrell as the interim manager and recently signed a new contract to say on as bench coach.
Wonderful news all around.
