The Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC) Mallam
Alhassan Yakmut has said that late sports reporter of the AIT, Felix
Okugbe, was a robust sports journalist.
Yakmut, reeling out an elegy on the late Felix in his office yesterday mentioned that Okugbe was one of the very few sports journalists who were very supportive when he, Yakmut, was active in sports. He claimed that Okugbe was clearly a detribalized fellow and was always on the look-out for excellence in every sport.

“Felix was like a brother to me”, Yakmut said. “ His death was as
painful as that of my uncle who passed on at the recent Mecca stampede.
When Felix was to undergo surgery abroad, I did try to reach out and
contribute my own widows mite. But I travelled at the time.
“I must mention that Felix did so much to assist in developing sports in Nigeria through the robust manner he went about his reporting.
“The NSC shall miss him and we shall do everything within our reach to support the family he left behind”
Okugbe died in Lagos after a complicated illness that required surgery in Indian. His remains will be buried today in his home at Sango-Ota in Lagos.
