Di Maria, 27, is still to play since his £44.3m move from Manchester United as he works towards full match fitness.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic was also absent through injury for the champions.

But a fierce strike from Blaise Matuidi and a Thiago Silva header inside the first 21 minutes were enough for PSG.
Laurent Blanc's side was unable to add to its tally but went to the top of the table on goal difference from Reims and Caen after securing their second successive league win.

Reims beat Marseille, playing under interim coach Franck Passi following the resignation of Marcelo Bielsa after an opening-day defeat to Caen, 1-0 thanks to a long-range strike from defender Hamari Traore .
Benjamin Moukandjo's stoppage-time penalty earned Lorient a 1-1 draw with Bastia, who had led through Floyd Ayite's early goal.
