Etsebiminor has joined the coaching team at the ongoing Akwa Ibom
State/NNPC/MPN Schools Athletics Holiday Camping and training programme
holding in Uyo. The Delta State-born coach helped Blessing Okagbare get
to the limelight.
Etsebiminor also has Divine Oduduru in
the long list of athletes he has nurtured to stardom. He will be in
charge of the sprints event in Uyo.
He was one of Nigeria’s coaches to the
Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games and was also in the country’s delegation
to the African Senior Athletics Championships in Nairobi, the All Africa
Games in Maputo in 2011; the IAAF World Junior Championship in
Barcelona in 2012 and the IAAF World Relays in Bahamas in 2015.
“I cherish this opportunity to work with
the futures of track and field in this country and I must commend the
organisers for such a worthy initiative. To bring 200 athletes together
under one roof and work with them for two weeks is an idea that should
be encouraged,” he said.
By the weekend the coaches were
addressed by the President of the Nigeria Athletics Coaches Association,
Mr Gabriel Okon, who asked them to keep their eyes open for those
promising athletes. Professor Lucas Ogunjimi later took them through the
coaching programme for the two weeks. In attendance were coaches Utit
Nkantah, Ken Onuaguluchi, Armelia Edet, George Abadomi, Steven Nuhu,
Daniel Umoette and Solomon Abari.
Also
officials of Mobil Producing Nigeria, led by Mrs Regina Udobong ,
Manager, Public and Govt Affairs QIT, supervised the distribution of
sports equipment to the kids.
The delighted students thanked MPN for the gesture and promised to maximise the opportunity offered them.
