Dolphins coach, Stanley Eguma, has
expressed his excitement over the club’s survival in the Glo Premier
League, saying that the determination of the players made it possible.
The Port Harcourt team escaped
relegation from the top flight on the last day of the season after their
2-2 draw against Shooting Stars in Ibadan on Sunday. They ended the
season in the 16th position with 45 points, same as fellow Port Harcourt
side, Sharks – who got relegated from the league.“It was really a tough battle among the
teams fighting to escape relegation. At a point, we were like six, but
thank God Dolphins were not relegated,” Eguma told our correspondent on
Tuesday.
“The players were determined to ensure
we remain in the Premier League. They knew it would be difficult playing
in the National League so they put up a spirited performance in the
last five matches of the season.
“We have never been relegated since we
came back in 2009 and it would have been a huge disappointment for our
fans if it had happened this season. Our performance wasn’t really good
but it will get better next season.”
The coach added, “Although it is quite
early to talk about next season,I can assure you that we will go back to
the drawing board and correct the mistakes we made this season to
enable us to come back stronger.”
