The Inspector-General of Police, Solomon
Arase, has said the force will ensure safe return of Samson Siasia’s
72-year-old mother.
Madam Ogere Siasia was abducted from her
home at Odoni community of Sagama Local Council Area of Bayelsa State
on Tuesday by unknown persons and the police have yet to rescue her.
Arase said the major challenge the force
had faced in securing the release of the national U-23 team coach’s
mother was the terrain in which the abductors operate.
The police boss spoke in Ibadan on Wednesday.
He said, “The police are working to
ensure that the woman is released as soon as possible. The difficulty we
had initially is the terrain in that area. Mostly, abductors come
through the riverine areas but we are working and overcoming that and I
can assure you that she will be released very soon.”
Arase told Oyo State Governor Abiola
Ajimobi at the state secretariat that he was in the state to enlighten
officers on the importance of community partnership.
The IG said, “I am here in the state to
talk and discuss with my officers that community partnership is the new
trend in policing the world over and that nothing meaningful can be
achieved without the collaborative support of members of the community
at all levels.
“I want them to realise and see members
of the community as strategic and important partners to successful
community policing. More so, that they must be human rights compliant
and respect the rule of law in the discharge of their duties by not
harming those they are supposed to protect.”
